The "absence of God" is a human perspective of this "reality," and one way to describe what seems to be.
The truth is that God is infinite and created all of Himself, and since He is Spirit, then all reality is spiritual. so the so-called separation in truth can not exist, because infinite creation never has a void where human conjecture could get a foothold and displace truth, so the appearance of anything unlike good is only a seeming condition to be overcome, but not a reality of God or His idea, man.

We aren't absent from God, when we become believers, the Holy Spirit lives within us. He is not absent, we just can't see him with the physical eye. The bible describes Hell as being somewhere of eternal damnation. This couldn't possibly be EVERLASTING punishment. However, those who are sentenced to hell will be separated from God and His love...the worst punishment of all. Here are some references if you would like to see the description of how hell will really be like:
Rev. 21:8
Matthew 13:41-42
Matthew 8:11-12
Psalms 9:17

No, we are not seperate from God. God is not only omnipresent, but also present within each individiual whether they acknowledge Him or not. God is the reason that we move, think, and have our being. He sustains all forms of life every instant.
Hell is a seperation from God and from being able to love God. We cannot imagine what that is like. That type of seperation goes beyond our earthly notions and misconceptions that God is somehow absent from the Human experience. In hell, we will be cut off from God in such a way, that this will be the greatest of torment in hell.

Our sin does separate us from God. However there is a way not to be separated from God on this earth, and it is through the Cross of Christ. I am a Christian that has a personal relationship with the living Lord, and I am NOT separated from God, here, and I wouldn't be in eternity either. Yes, sinners are separated from God, due to our sin, and if we do not admit we are sinners and accept Christ as payment for that sin, we will not only be separated from God, in hell, we will burn for eternity as well. Please don't consider this as judgment- I am only sharing this with you for 2 reasons. You asked- and also I care enough about others to want them to experience God now and for eternity.

No Hell isn't the absence of God Mr.AndyMan Can. The bible says that God is everywhere: "If I ascend up into heaven, [God] is there: if I make my mattress in hell, behold, [God] is there." Psalm 139:8

No no no, we are not in hell. And we are not separated from God.
His father Zechariah was filled with the Holy Spirit and prophesied. - Luke 1:67
If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!" - Luke 11:13
and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age"
- Matthew 28:20

no, because for Christians we are not 'hypothetically' separated from God, for God dwells within us 'as in a Temple'. So in that sense we are intimately united with the God. So it is only in a sense that we are 'far from the Lord', as Paul says, but in that sense we do groan in this world as if in hell. But it is not the same meaning as 'hypothetical'.

sounds interesting. it could also be argued by some people that this is somewhat of a "middle world". heaven is with god and hell is without god but earth is a place where god is here but not really here. i've heard other people explain it better but its like being in a house with your parents but your parents are upstairs and you are down stairs. they are there but not with you.
just sharing another perspective that i have heard from other people

The most important aspect of Hell is separation from your Creator, but there are many other unpleasant aspects of Hell!

For us, this earth is the only Hell we will ever know.
For those not reconciled to God, this is the only Heaven they will ever know.
I think that about sums it up.
