They also just call it unity. And how it differs from a baptist?

I'm Roman Catholic, but attend events and services at the local Unity Church once in a while. The full name was once "The Unity School of Christianity", but most people nowadays just say "Unity". This is not to be confused with the Unitarian Universalists, which is a separate denomination.

Unity is very open and accepting. They are a gay-friendly church, and have female clergy, which in itself makes them different from the average Baptist church. Here are five basic principles of Unity:

God is the source and creator of all. There is no other enduring power (omnipotence; omniscience). God is good (omnibenevolence) and present everywhere (omnipresence).

We are spiritual beings, created in God’s image. The spirit of God lives within each person; therefore, all people are inherently good.

We create our life experiences through our way of thinking.

There is power in affirmative prayer, which we believe increases our connection to God.

Knowledge of these spiritual principles is not enough. We must live them.

They believe in the power of positive affirmations and prayer. Unlike the Baptist churches, they do not generally preach heavily about salvation or teach anything about Hell. Most Unity parishioners are not Biblical literalists. They are also accepting of other religious traditions. As they say at the local Unity Church, "We honor all the various paths to God." I once saw a bronze Buddha statue placed on a Unity altar, which would never happen in a Baptist church.

Unity? it believes everything! at one time! It is called: Post Modernism . . . which basically is represented well here on this forum . . . it teaches that you can't really know truth, so you need to construct a belief system that works for you and go for it . . . until it needs modification, and then adjust.

Baptists read the Bible and reread the Bible and work very hard at keeping the doctrine and beliefs pure and original. Baptists certainly believe you can know Truth. After all . . . Jesus is Truth . . . Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life . . .any man who follows me . . . etc"

I like the Baptist Teachings, but admit a lot of the people are a bit 'churchy' . . . but when you use to run with the fools I used to run with . . . you let that slide.

So your question speaks of two very different peoples!

They believe in a perfect love and savior beingness that is potential in everyone, and perfectly manifested in him. They refer to it as the Christ within you.
