Check out Nikon Coolpix L12. It's a great camera with 3X zoom, 7 megapixel sensor, 2.5 inch bright LCD, etc. And it goes for under $150 brand new. You'll have enough money to buy a large SD memory card and a case for it.

I really believe buying a camera is an individual choice.
The person needs to read alot of reviews on cameras and learn as much as they can from the internet.
Go to the store and hold them and try them to see what they feel like and how they take pictures.
I can only give a suggestion of what to look for in a new digital camera.

I bought one two weeks ago..very nice..Canon SD 1000..I got at B&H photo Total $285.00 less a mail in rebate of $50.00..The camera is $209.00.. extra battery $18.00....1GB SD card $24.00..and I bought a case..You do need the 1GB SD card so you can hold a ton of pictures..I asked a lot people before I bought it..they seem to be right...

There are lots of good digital cameras. You can go to e-bay and look for NEW ones. Or bestbuy.com or circuitcity.com!!

You might consider the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W55. 7 megapixels, 3X optical zoom.
