Most likely your puppy has worms. Most puppies do, a routine vet check up will test and treat her for internal parasites.

The usual reasons would be anal glands, does she have an unplesant odour, or more to the point does the floor after! A vet will show you how to express the anal glands. The glands are used to lubricate the anal canal, but can become blocked. Unusual for a puppy though. Otherwise could be worms, puppies need to be wormed every few weeks, preferably by the vet. Most over the counter preparations need you to know the weight of the dog. It can also become a habit with neither of these problems being an issue. Although it can look amusing, try not to encourage it.

A change of diet can also help - canned dog food is 80% water try a complete food and ensure fresh drinking water. It no different to humans, if he ate only semi liquid diet - how would our bowels react without fibre!!

A dog has anal glands either side of its bottom. Occasionally they can fill up with fluid, and it can be uncomfortable and sometimes painful until they are released. Scooting is a way a dog tries to release them, but really is has to be done by either a vet or a groomer with a strong stomach and some cotton wool to hand!
as a former groomer, i can tell you from experience that when you express the anal glands, the smell is unpleasant!
She may also have worms, but would have other symptoms, such as a pot belly and an increased appetite.
A good vet will sort you out either way, and it shouldnt cost a huge amount.

Quite a lot of people have said worms but it is a bit of a myth that dogs shuffle their bums on the floor with worms. Our dog was doing this and the vet said it was most likely something to do with the anal gland. He went into the vets to have a grass seed removed from his foot and at the same time the vet cleaned out his anal gland - problem solved!

I think it best to get it checked out at the vet.

Either she has worms or her anal gland are full. Take her to the vet get her wormed or get anal glands emptied. Both can cause itchiness and irritation of the rear. Also if she has trouble pooping it might cause irritation. Maybe fleas too. Flea bites to tender regions they can't reach they will try to rub them on carpet to relieve the itch.

She has an itchy bum.
This can be an indicator of worms.
Get a worm treatment from your pet store, or else from your vet.
Also, if you're treating her for worms, you should also treat her for fleas too.
A lot of people don't realise that the worm and the flea's life-cycle are inter-connected and the two creatures are dependent on each other for their continued existence.

Worms!!! Go to the pet store and buy some worming tablets. They are only a couple of pounds!! If after worming her she is still doing it then take her to the vet. But as someone has already said, 95% of the time a dog will do this because of worms.

Definitely worms....When puppies are born they inherit from the mother you need to get some worming tablets or powder from the vet. Don't buy from a pet shop it won't work as well..If you treat your puppy they will be fine in 24hrs...I am surprised you haven't seen them in the puppies poo........Need to retreat every 4 weeks speak to vet on how long needed....

Possibility of her having Worms , She does it because they are itching her rear , and they cant scratch their rears themselves so scooting across gives them some relief .
