I'm thinking of joinig the Navy one year from now. Basically, I'am a junior in college and have one year left in my studies. I was thinking of exploring the world before I apply to graduate school, and I heard the Navy is good for that. I' am thinking of doing a one year commitment in the Navy, no more than one year. Is it possible?

now for something completly different....

The captain of a Navy vessel sees a young seaman looking out to see with a very sad expression...
The CO walks up and says "Hey Shipmate what's bothering you?"
"Well sir I am 18 and I joined the Navy to see the world and after bootcamp I was flown aboard and we have been out to sea for 7 months with no port. I am just wondering, when do I get to see the world?"
The Captain replies "Son 70% of the earth is covered in water; You are seeing the world. Now get back to F ucking work!!!!"

No. You must enlist for at least three years. As much as I am for the Navy, just to let you know you may get stationed in a small town and stay there for your entire enlistment. My brother joined and will spend his full 5 year enlistment in Cherry Point, NC. The recruiters don't tell you everything. They did let a few go to Japan but it was randomly distributed by the officers without any comments from recruits. Good luck to you though. I'm sure you will make the best out of whatever you may pursue.

NO. ALL military contracts are for EIGHT Years. the shortest Active Duty Commitment is 2 years. There is a program that may be discontinued shortly called NCS..which is 15 months of Active Duty (that begins after all training)followed by a mandatory 24 months in the Reserves.
