Canada is a member state in NATO. After the attack on America, NATO invoked Article 6 of the NATO Charter which says that an attack on one NATO state is an attack on all. It's not the typical UN Chapter Six (Peacekeeping) or Chapter Seven (Peace Enforcement) mission that's commemorated (rightfully so) by those statues at the base of Parliament Hill in Ottawa. It's war!
