Right now her hair is long and blond. She hates messing around with putting it up in barrettes or ponytail so she wants it medium length. She is a tomboy so we cannot be too girly. The main issue is keeping the sides out of her face and not getting into her food & paints.

let me know if it might help by posting her pic.

maybe cut her hair to about shoulder length and giver her some bangs so it will stay out of her way

depending on the texture of her hair you might want to get layers too :)

How about having her hair cut and shaped where the front and sides still have some length - and the back is off her neck? (razor v-shape).

Better than that - take your daughter to a nice salon that features young girls hairstyles and cuts. She'll feel like a big girl and may have some input.

I teach 9-14 year olds and I have seen some really nicely shaped hair cuts and styles. These girls complain that when they dance, they have trouble keeping their hair pinned up or shaped. Now, when they do flips, etc. hair does not go all over the place.

Good luck to you and your 9 year old.

hey,
go mid length...just above the shoulder....but only a tiny tiny bit above the shoulders and a fringe on the eyebrow line. won't get into food or paints and fringr gives it a great twist even for a tomboy.
good luck!
