Wow, many great answers here so far. Pink has a good idea with lambics. The Belgians really knew what they were doing when they came up with these. Lambics are fruit beers...now, with that said, they taste like carbonated fruit juice more than beer, and usually, the alcohol content is higher than domestics. As a private bar owner, I've seen all types. There is a difference between liquor and liqueur (schnapp-types are typically what those are) For me, it depends on the environment. On Clearwater Beach in Florida, nothing beats a Bacardi and Coke with a wedge of lime while the waves hit the shore, or a Carona with lime. Though I'm not a fan of domestics, at a race, Budweiser in their aluminum bottles is a ice cold treat! A night out, don't be afraid to to try something that tastes good, such as a rum runner, or Bacardi Cocktail. If you're out for some greasy bar food, or throwing darts, keep it simple. Your drinks will get to you faster between rounds, such as Jack and Coke or Jim and Coke. These are all personal favorites of mine...however, whoever said bourbon and vodka will get the job done if you need to erase your short term memory. However, beware of mixing your colors or just plan on praying to the porcelain god at the end of the evening.

Without a doubt in my mind or any hesitation I would have to say a mojito. Mint leaves muddled with brown sugar, lime wedges and your favorite rum- Brugal or something similar- filled with crushed ice and topped off with a dash of club soda. Use a sprig of mint leaves to decorate- sip thru a straw to get the sugar grains in the whole experience. Mmmmm.
The drink has it all- class, sophistication, it takes time and knowhow to prepare, student boys can't afford to buy them for you (hee hee) and they leave you with minty fresh breath. I rest my case!
Of course in the beer stakes I'd have to say Erdinger Weiss beer- a lovely cloudy neon yellow brew that is deceptively strong but goes down smooth. Literally the undisputed God of beers.
Shots- I'd go with either Jagermister as a straight shot or a baby Guiness as a mixed shot (tia topped with Baileys)
Wine- Albarino varieties (from Spain)- any of them are great in white, or Portugal's pleasantly cheap Vino Verde, and red wine winners I'd go with Ribera del Duero (spanish also- I'm slightly biased)

armaretto sour. It tast the best if it is a little on the sweet side. I like the really good tasting drinks that sneak up on you....

Mojito (said as: mo-hito) It is a Spanish drink- but it is one of those drinks that everyone makes differently- so it is hard to detect what is really good to you if you don't try a few different places.

There isn't one. It depends on the mood one is in. To me, booze is seasonal. In the summer I like to go with something like gin & tonic or vodka & tonic. In the winter, something heavier like a good single malt scotch.

Then certain drinks go better with certain situations. For example, a Mai Tai with Chinese food. Sushi is no good unless it's with a Sapporo beer, Italian food with red wine, steak with red wine, fish/chicken with white wine.

Also I tend to have a pre-dinner cocktail (martini), wine with dinner and something else after dinner - like a good expensive port.

If I'm just drinking, lately I've been drinking flavored vodka with club soda. Light on calories, various flavors, minimal hangover. Sometimes I drink beer.

I'm going to have to say (this is where a lot of people disagree with me) a 50/50 mix of bourbon whiskey and vodka. It really gets the job done!

Red wine, merlot. But if I had to choose from your three categories. I guess my 2nd favorite would be Smirnoff Ice.
