shouldn't the government stop providing all types of benefits for illegals first? After all, if we weren't giving them another reason(all types of freebies) to come here illegally, maybe it wouldn't be as big a problem. What do you think?

The government should be doing both; punishing employers and reducing their benefits.

A one prongred approach will not work. A fence, by itself, won't work. Employer enforcement, by itself, won't work.

It's through a combination of approaches that America might be protected and be a sovereign nation once again.

It's the courts that have screwed this up. This is how the Democrats get things done if they can't get a law passed. They have their liberal life appointed federal judges legislate from the bench.
In Texas, the schools were happy to take children from illegals into school, if the parents paid. This was working fine. Then the courts said they were entitled to a free education like citizens and legal residents.

It starts with the companies hiring the illegals. Majority of illegals come to USA for work, that's a fact, a minority come here for just the freebies. As of now, the fine is 10k per illegal that is employed. If every company was fined 10k, it would not be beneficial for the company to hire the people, therefor they would not hire illegals, getting rid of the demand for cheap labor. There are a lot of Americans who will pick fruit, and build roof's, etc. they're called unemployed people and maybe even poor people. So if the companies paid for they're side stepping, then the gov't would only have to worry about the minority of people committing marriage and ssn fraud.

"According to the Globe, the attorney general's office never asks about a worker's citizenship status because officials claim their intention is to enforce state law – not federal immigration law. Steve Kropper, cochair of Massachusetts Citizens for Immigration Reform, said illegals are not entitled to minimum wage because they are not citizens. "No government resources should be devoted to the rights of people who are here illegally," he said. "They broke the law by being here. They had no right to the job."" Slavery is legal? The company should be fined and the illegal immigrant refunded and deported. The whole reason companies hire illegal immigrants is to pay the worker under minimum wage. The illegal immigrant should already know this, which companies will stop hiring illegal immigrants if they are forced to pay illegal immigrants equal pay.

The government will never stop the freebies to the illegals. There is not one politician, liberal or radical, who will step up to the plate and do the right thing. All this talk from both sides of the fence is just that, talk. Nothing will ever be done to prevent illegal immigration. After all, we don't want to appear "racist...." Ha...!

If we punish the employers more stringently or even just enforce the laws that are on the books, they will not have any motivation to break the law. If there are no jobs available, immigration will slow down. Why risk life and limb to come to a foreign country and be unemployed when you can stay right where you are? The idea that huge numbers of people are coming here for a handout is mendacity.

No. Enforcement against the employers who exploit illegals is absolutely necessary if you want to solve the problem.

Certain public services can not be constitutionally denied to anyone, even if they are illegal - but, any illegal availing themselves of such a service should still be promptly deported. Don't turn people away from emergency rooms or let children starve - but send them directly home as soon as thier stable or have had a decent meal.

I disagree. I think that punishing employers and stopping benefits to illegals should happen simultaneously. Illegals get FREE health care, welfare, food, education, in-state tuition rates for state universities, etc. They use fake SS numbers. And illegal children (not just anchor babies) qualify for state health care without SS numbers.

I agree with Naphtli, but evidently Carol has never seen illegals buy $400 worth of groceries with their food stamp card then load the groceries in the back of their new SUV. Illegals are entitled to NOTHING in this country, so I think all benefits should be stopped, employers should be fined and imprisoned, landlords should pay fines equal to the amount of their property values, and mayors who declare their towns as "sanctuary cities" should be arrested and imprisoned for aiding and abetting known criminals.

Well you have to provide emergency medical assistance, and honestly I would rather see kids go to school and get an education regardless of their legal status.

Overall though, you do raise a good point. I believe though that the use of most public benefits should be removed from illegals and tougher penalties for employers should be instituted.

First thing though that must happen before those things is the border must be secured. We have to be able to control who goes in and out of this country.
