Lower humidity will always feel cooler. Since the basement generally is always cooler that the upper floors, dehumidifying this air would also be a good source of cool, drier air. Closing the windows in the basement is important to keep outside humidity from entering, and would make the humidifier work less hard. A good source of cool air can be achieved to the upper floors if you open all basement returns.Just consider,if the basement has any smells ie. musty these smells would be circulated through the system!
