My parents didn't speak to me for 3 months because I told them I don't think homosexuality is a sin. Oh, and I'm pregnant with their first grandchild. Their priorities are way out of whack.

"You just have to have faith"
...for some reason, this is always what my Mother ends up saying when we have theological discussions. I've found that when she says those words, it means she has completely run out of anything to say in defense of her side of an issue.
Apparently, she thinks that if you have enough faith in a belief, it will somehow counteract the fact that the belief is completely wrong and utterly ridiculous.
Consequently, I've come to the conclusion that the real meaning of "faith" is that you know you are wrong, but you're not going to admit to yourself or anyone else.

~~~ I R ,,,, One of our Family Christmas Traditions is to have a Huge Pork Roast for dinner. I was visiting from another state, my parents were visiting from another country. I was in my early 40's and had converted to a Vegan Diet over 12 year prior. When my grandmother asked my mom, in front of Everybody, what I was going to eat, she replied, "Well it's not going to hurt him. He can eat it This Once, just like everyone else." ,,,, A few years later my mom also said to my face, "Well, you're a Buddhist ." She wasn't even close.
My sister, who has no conception in the least of what my beliefs are but has known me researching spiritual paths in the past, said the dumbest thing I ever heard. When I was engaged to my atheist husband, she wondered how it would work,
"Since you are 'under God' and he isn't."
Oh. My. God.
I think she'd have a stroke if she tried to comprehend that I"m actually a pagan Taoist (atheist).
i ran into a family friend at church. i was there with my girlfriend and we were there for a christening (my girlfriend was the god mother). the family friend became all flustered and said something along the lines of "oh, you're gay and in church? well...that's ok, i mean we're all sinners...not that what you're doing is a sin, but i've sinned plenty so you can too..well that's not what i mean but..."
she was a wreck...studdering and everything. more funny than anything else.
I was told by a co-worker that everything bad that has ever happened to me was because I wasn't a Christian, and that if I would only repent and accept Jesus that nothing bad would ever happen to me again. A week later he totaled his car and broke his leg in three places. Guess he wasn't a Xtian either lol.
When i was about 13, i was telling a family member about the doubts i had about the existence of god, and i was told this was the devil's work, or something to that effect.
I guess it's not particularly outrageous...
Hmm.
I must be lucky. My entire family-and that's a big number -all have the same beliefs-ergo-I've never heard an outrageous word from any of them.
It is from a friend and a classmate who is Jehovah's Witness. She told me I won't go to heaven because there's a specific number mentioned in the Bible about those who shall be saved and that number refers only to the members of their church.
Then another friend of mine, who comes from a different sect called "Iglesia Ni Cristo" tells me the same thing that Catholics won't go to heaven because only those who are members of her church will because it is mentioned in the Bible.
