Talking to Special Forces Soldiers in 5th Group

The washout rate for recruits under the 18x enlistment option is huge.

As of the summer of 2007,

Less than 2% of the recruits who signed 18x contracts have progressed to the start of the Q Course.

18x recruits are 5 times more likely to wash out of SFAS than prior service recruits.

And those are the recruits who have already made it thru the Special Operations Preparation Course (SOPC)

They didn't know how many of that 2% who started the Q course, finished it and were badged.

I don't know. Most people don't enlist as an 18. They start off as something else then transition to it. Last time they tried it in the 90's, it was a very high wash-out rate for those that enlisted directly. Those that start as another MOS and prepare for it over a few years (the normal way) pass regularly since they know what they are getting into and have general experience in the Army to begin with.

I wish that I had an exact number for you, but I know that it is extremely high. Getting through SOPC is VERY difficult. I know many infantrymen that went in as 18X. Good luck to you, if that is what you are going to try!

The attrition rate for SF is close to 75% (whereas the attrition rate for Rangers is 50%).
