"This book was written to refute other creation stories by chaotic and pagan nations to show God had order in the creation of all things"

What makes other cultures/belief systems ideas any less relevant? Why do you feel YOURS is the ONLY one?

"Most Christians (including the Catholic Church) do not take the stories of creation in the Bible literally."

Which is precisely why I asked Y.E.C.'s for their input, because THEY do.

"As long as we believe that God started the whole thing, both the Bible and modern science can live in harmony."

Do you not see the problem with that statement????? Please tell me you do.

Most Christians (including the Catholic Church) do not take the stories of creation in the Bible literally. Catholics believe the book of Genesis tells religious truth and not necessarily historical fact.

One of the religious truths is that God created everything and declared all was good.

Catholics can believe in the theory of evolution. Or not. The Church does not require belief in evolution.

On August 12, 1950 Pope Pius XII said in his encyclical Humani generis:

The Teaching Authority of the Church does not forbid that, in conformity with the present state of human sciences and sacred theology, research and discussions, on the part of men experienced in both fields, take place with regard to the doctrine of evolution, in as far as it inquires into the origin of the human body as coming from pre-existent and living matter - for the Catholic faith obliges us to hold that souls are immediately created by God.

Here is the complete encyclical: http://www.vatican.va/holy_father/pius_xii/encyclicals/documents/hf_p-xii_enc_12081950_humani-generis_en.html

The Church supports science in the discovery of God's creation. At this time, the theory of evolution is the most logical scientific explanation. However tomorrow someone may come up with a better idea.

As long as we believe that God started the whole thing, both the Bible and modern science can live in harmony.

With love in Christ.

Well, I'm a Christian, but I happen to believe a little differently. I believe God's measure of time is different from ours. I think a year in God's time could be a thousand years in ours. I think we see things from a much slower perspective. I think the people who wrote the Bible either did not understand that or explain it or transcribe it correctly.

So, I have no problem whatsoever with a 4 billion-year-old diamond just as I have no problem with the story of God creating the earth in 6 days.

The Bible is not a science book
It is an account of our salvation history which is 6000 yrs old with the beginning of Adam and Eve
The book of Genesis was not the first book written even though it appears first. This book was written to refute other creation stories by chaotic and pagan nations to show God had order in the creation of all things

I believe that when God commanded Christ to create the earth, Christ used pieces of other worlds and molded them in to the world we have today.
