3. Yes, that is one way
I believe that God communicates to us through nature and other means as well. I think God can inspire thought in anyone, and anyone can choose to communicate that thought to another person, giving God several channels to reach you. Additionally, I don't hold the Bible to be 100% accurate or divinely dictated. Some of the Bible is simply inspirational stories (as in Job) that may or may not have actually happened, but given to illustrate a principle. The Bible is also subject to interpretation by each individual, and there is no comprehensive list of questions and answers offered in the Bible, simply verses to reference.
Also, I believe that we can communicate to God (however you define Him) in different ways than just prayer. Christ himself said "Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these, my brethren, ye have done it unto me." If we mistreat others, we are communicating that to God. If we treat others well, we communicate that as well.
In any of the above cases, churches are designed by well-meaning men (with a few exceptions) as a means of propagating and supporting these Christian values and are not by any means eternally binding by God.
