Is the USA acting as the policeman of the world? I had no idea. The powers-that-be have gone and removed that horrible Saddam character, but conveniently neglected to deal with the countless other dictators of the world. No, I don't think Iraq was invaded out of any kind of service or favor to anyone in the world except the big man himself and some of his business associates.
Revenge and reconstruction contracts, anyone?

Wow, look at all the chicken hawks. The U.S. has set itself up as the world's police because that's the only function our military can serve that would justify the U.S.'s astronomical defense budget (especially since the collapse of the Soviet Union). One problem with the military-industrial complex is it's spiraling economic growth. Dismantling the military-industrial complex without crippling or destroying the U.S. economy will be very tricky and probably won't be accomplished in our lifetime. I wonder how many of the other respondents have ever tried listening to their brains instead of their tiny testicles

America isn't policing the world. The American gov't is controlled by large corporations, and these corporations gain profits for their shareholders whenever America is involved in foreign wars. If you want America to mind it's own business you first have to realize the basic fact that the People have no say in the matter.

Well if that was true that we were trying to be the world police then I would be for ya. But we are in war with Iraq due to threats and DUH!!! 911. People are so dumb and they have forgotten about 911. How stupid can you be for not seeing the reason for this war. My brother is out there fighting for this country and for you. Learn some respect for this country, or move out!

We shouldnt be, but look at the UN, its doing a fantastic job isnt it? Yeah right. The US is one of the few countries willing to stand up against the radical Islamic threat. The UN is completely corrupted and should disband and start again from scratch.

Economics. As a country we have come to depend too much on foreign imports. If we would learn to create our own resources here we wouldn't have so many hands in the pot. Until we stop relying on foreign imports to live our everyday life's foreigners will always be stirring the pot for us.

We were "minding" our own business until September 11th 2001.
We should have seen that attack coming. Then again I dont think we could have after the Clinton administration systematically dismantled our foreign intelligence ability for 8 years.
We have been ignoring the threat of the Islamic Fundamentalist movement since 1976. We ignored it and then it manifested itself resulting in six thousand US civilians being killed on our own soil.
I do not think we should ignore it any longer. If turning Iraq into a Neo-West Germany (cold war) will result in improved ability to address this threat then I am all for it.
Wake up, people like you have been asleep for a while.

Because we are strong and can. You might want to move somewhere where they only care about themselves and see how much you like it. Those coutries get no help or encouragment or even a respectful look. perfect example: NORTH KOREA

You should mind YOUR own business. The reason why we are the "world police" is because we are the only ones on earth who have the guts to stand up for whats right. So before you go dissing America, understand that we are the only real freedom fighters on the planet.
