I'm Going on the freedom and my dad is making me do a report on it... I know it sux!!!!! so i need to know how long it took to make the boat. HELP!!!

dancer_bean is right...there was a special on the travel channel: it was Great Cruises with Samantha Brown, and it explained vaguely on how it took to built the ship...they gave just a little information, and I believe it was 3 years...I checked on the travel channel website and it didnt have anything about it...hope I helped! = ]

Once the plans are finalized, it takes about one year to cut the metal and building the subsections (called super lifts). About 300,000 metal parts are cut and welded together.
Then the subsections are welded together to form the hull. That takes place in a dry dock. This process also takes about one year. Finally, once the hull is built, the ship is floated out to what is called the wet dock or finishing dock. This is where all the finishing work (tile, inside painting, electrical ...) is done. This also takes about one year.
However, I do not know how long it took from concept until the plans were finalized (which includes water tank testing of the hull with scale models).

I would look at Royal Caribbean's website 1st, but the travel channel also did a documentary on building a few ships (not sure if the freedom is 1 of them). If all else fails try asking the captain during the welcome aboard cocktail party which is the 2nd night of the cruise. Have a great cruise!

Try going to the Royal Caribbean Website - www.rccl.com it will not tell you but you may be able to get a contact email or website which you could find out the shipbuilder's info. The actual building time would come from the builder.
