Your understanding is correct, but many people don't want to hear that, and would prefer to keep complaining about the "rich" and being envious that someone else has more than they do.

My theory is that people don't understand because they don't WANT to understand.

Yes, the rich pay more taxes.
It's very simple.
The more money you make = the more taxes you pay. It's a percentage. Simple math.

And if the "rich" were paying the ENTIRE tax burden in this country ... I hate to tell you - they wouldn't be "rich" anymore. So you are wrong there.

The truly "rich" get by with no SS or medicare. They have no jobs and libe off interest income. or 15%.
We all pay corporate and business taxes and compliance costs embeded in prices.

We can even that out with the Fair Tax Act. www.fairtax.org

I was always told that the rich pay more but at a lower rate, i.e. Paris Hilton pays 5% of her income which equals $10 million and Jane Dow pays 7% which is only a few thousand.

I also heard that they pay the same rate but the more money that you have, the less taxes negatively affect you.

Poor people don't pay taxes. The middle class and the rich class pay all of it.

obviously if you make more money, they are going to take more away, but I don't know the specific percentages.
