I have an old bill with scana energy that I didnt pay. It should drop off of my credit reports in March, 2008. it is showing up as an installment account on my bureaus. It is now paid. Should I dispute it to say it should be a collection? Or does it matter, since it should drop off next March and shouldnt make a big difference score wise anyhow?

"Should I dispute it to say it should be a collection?"

You want to make it WORSE? Collection accounts are one of the worst things to ahve on your report. Just leave it alone

Write Scana Energy and ask them to send a note to the credit bureaus showing that this has been paid. Include a copy of the receipt or cancelled check as proof with your letter. You should want your credit report to be as clean as possible, as soon as possible.

Ralfcoder, you crack me up. Obviously you haven't dealt with the bureaus. I personally would ignore it. Your score already reflects your non-payment. Definitely keep your receipt. If you do submit it to all three bureaus make sure you send it certified mail receipt requested (for proof that you sent it). Don't freak if in 2008 it doesn't come off. Just keep that receipt, so you can cough it up IF it becomes an issue in the future. My guess is, it won't. Good luck
