Catholics are the true Christians since they belong to the Church founded by Our Lord Jesus on the Rock of Peter (the Papacy). The first Pope was St.Peter and his direct successor is Pope Benedict XVl.

All other Protestant churches were founded by men and not by God. The Protestant church was founded in rebellion and protest, not by God , but by a man called Martin Luther. There are thousands of Protestant churches all differing from each other and all of them rebelling against the Roman Catholic Church.

There is salvation only in the Roman Catholic Church which has existed from the time of Christ and will exist for all times. God could not be the author of dissention, confusion and conflicting beliefs as one sees in Protestant churches.

Catholics and Protestants are both Christians.

Catholics follow the Catholic church, which they hold has been handed down through time from Jesus to Peter to the pope in Rome today.

Protestants "protested" against the Catholic church, hence the name "protestants", which means "protestors."

they didn't think the Catholic church was going in the right direction so they started their own churches. Most people say that Martin Luther was the first to do this.

(Of course, that's Martin Luther the 16th century reformer, not Martin Luther King, the 20th century reformer.)

The Roman Catholic church became the 1st breakaway church to be formed after Jesus formed the Church of Christ whilst he became on earth. The apostles and early church contributors, saints, have been persecuted and killed off to the element that the authoritative company of the Church ought to no longer exist. The Roman Catholic church became made out of a mixture of recent converts and maybe any surviving "christians". those church homes who extra broke far flung from the Catholic church are referred to as Protestants in that they protest the Catholic creed and faith. An occasion of a Protestant church may be the Lutheran, Methodists, or Anglican. a lot of those church homes have been formed based on the instructions of protesting Catholic contributors, like Martin Luther. we are residing in a society the place we now could desire to apply adjectives to describe the noun Christian. we now could desire to declare "genuine" or "reliable" as though Christian ought to signify the rest as nicely the actuality or all that's reliable. Christian in basic terms means being "Christ-like". Many communities, whether or no longer they be Jehovah's Witnesses, Adventists, Baptists, and so on., argue over the term Christian as they conflict to define the character and attributes of one. the subject is they can't even define Christ or his teachings and hence can not define what a Christ-like guy or woman is each and each professing to be one. the notably common definition of Christian is to declare "all people who believes in Christ and his teachings and so some quantity practices them". you need to comprise "prepare" by way of fact the devils have faith and don't prepare.

"What separates us as believers in Christ is much less than what unites us." (Pope John XXIII)

Almost all important doctrine is completely agreed upon between Catholic Christians and other Christians.

Here is the joint declaration of justification by Catholics (1999), Lutherans (1999), and Methodists (2006):

By grace alone, in faith in Christ's saving work and not because of any merit on our part, we are accepted by God and receive the Holy Spirit, who renews our hearts while equipping us and calling us to good works.

There are many minor doctrine issues and some major cultural traditional differences which, I believe, do not matter that much.

A Catholic worships and follows Christ in the tradition of Catholicism which, among other things, recognizes that Christ made Peter the leader of His new Church and Pope Benedict XVI is Peter's direct successor.

Catholics and Protestants both claim to be Christians, but they have different interpretations of the Bible - for example, Catholics pray to the Virgin Mary and say the rosary, Protestants don't.

sassinya has the most concise definition, but i have one thing to add:
All who are catholics are not necessarily "not Christian". All who are protestants are not necessarily Christian. God knows the heart, and everything aside, a true Christian has been saved by Christ, knowing they can't do it on their own. Everything else is irrelevant.
