your passport allows you to stay upto 6months once you enter canada depending on what the border guard said. If you haven't renewed you ability to stay here I suggest you start there... if you are marrying him, he would have to start a spousal sponsorship package within Canada. Now depending on where you have lived in the states, every state you have lived in you have to get a police certificate and if that wasn't enough you have to get an FBI certificate as well. Make sure you put a date required on that or it will take months. Your new hubby will be required to sign a contract with the gov stating that he will supply the basic necessities to you and now your child for up to 10 years. Is he able and ready for that, have you moved everything up or what is going on? Ton of paperwork including a medical and pictures and proof that you are married and people know about it etc.... As far as how much does it cost well the application fees alone run about $1200 and that doesn't count the finger prints and fees from the US. So the process isn't quick, will take well over a year and then some. So provided you to really love each other and are in this for the long haul .... go for it. If you are not, I suggest you go back to the US and start your life there. You can keep your US citizenship and once you get your Can citizenship you can apply for dual. You start with a permanent resident card and then after a minimum of 3 years in Canada you can write your citizenship test! Yup test.... So go to the Canadian Immigration website and look at your options and make a decision.... how do I know all this, my husband is American and we are going through it right now!

First, if you are getting married just because you are pregnant, that is no way to bring a child into the world. Most likely then, you got pregnant due to infatuation and not genuine love and stand a good chance in bringing this child up in an unloving atmosphere when the infatuation is over or ending it in a divorce and leaving the child to deal with parents that live in two countries. If you still plan on marrying even with that thought, then I suggest you both move to either Sault Ste Marie, Canada or Sault Ste Marie, Michigan. That way you can work in the USA and he can work in Canada and the commute is only a 15 minute trek over the international bridge that separates the two countries. If you do end up separated, then the child will be able to deal with being close to either parent. Be sure to get his citizenship in both countries too. My brother lives in England and all 4 of his kids are legal citizens of both countries since he is American and she is Brittish. And as far as cost, everything everywhere is costly. You just learn how to deal with it and work through and around it by money management and budgeting. Yard Sales and Thrift Stores work great too for new baby items.

Denounce your US citizenship because you sold out to Canada! But if you insist on this is the person of your dreams, for at least the next five years or so, stay in Canada b/c the kid will then be a dual citizen when born and have more options when he/she is older. For example when traveling to Czech republic (like the movie Hostel) they won't pay as much to kill a Canadian as they would an American! Keep in mind, if the kid is born in Canada, they cannot get a US govt job, and keep their Canadian citizenship. Health-care is cheaper in Canada, but if you have a good job in US (meaning you have good insurance) the baby process is cheap and easy, minus the watermelon thorough a grapefruit scenario (actual birth). my kid only cost 400 for a 4 day stay in the hospital, including c-section, the rest paid by insurance (BCBS.)
