Atheist from Michigan here :)
It's not terrible up here, actually. The friends I have who aren't atheists aren't in my face about it, they're actually really understanding, and we have great conversations about religion/philosophy. I've also managed to find other atheists... my boyfriend and several of my closest friends are atheists.
In the south, however, is where the true bible belt is. I went to Virginia a couple of weeks ago, and I literally saw a church every 10 minutes. It was creepy.

I'm agnostic, but close enough to count, right? I'm in Southern Indiana.
Thankfully, this is a college town with an huge mix of religions and all that, but I used to live in this mile-square town that had fourteen churches. Scary stuff. XD It was pretty sucky, but I'm not very open with religion or whatever so it had little real effect on day to day life, other than having to dodge questions about going to church.

I thought the Bible Belt was like Tennessee and Oklahoma and whatnot?
Yeah, Kansas might count. They call it "Heartland" but at least you can buy a car on Sunday.

Atheist Southerner here but I'm still definitely in the Bible Belt.
I think I can sum up the worst part in one word: Ignorance.

Im in the south and it sucks! Im a closet atheist and dont want to be...
The worst thing is all the conservative christians - some friends - most not, that I disagree with all the time. I need more liberal friends; hard to find here though...

I left California to live in Oklahoma. Can you believe it? It's cool, though. I like the country.
