Why are people who don't smoke so uptight about people who do?

I have no desire to stop smoking unless i plan on having a child. My boyfriend of 2 years keeps demanding i stop just because he is not a smoker. In your opinion who is wrong in this situation?

I appreciate all the answers, i really just want honest opinions no matter how harsh they are.

i don't smoke and i'm not uptight about people that do. i have two friends and a brother that smoke and i just choose not to. it's their life and i let them do what they want with it.

When you smoke you are directly polluting the environment. Even if you make a conscious effort to throw all your butts away in trash cans and not just flicking them on the ground, you are still introducing pollutants into the air which is the same air everyone else breathes along with you. While you may not think one little cigarette makes much of a dent, you are not the only person in the world who lights one up everyday, probably multiple times a day.
If you are smoking in an area where your boyfriend, along with everyone else, has no chance of inhaling your second-hand smoke, then it's your body and you do what you want with it.
Finally, just remember that after you've smoked, you smell horrible to the people who don't. Which should be no problem if you don't care about how much you reek.

Why can't people who smoke just accept the fact that the stuff reeks like heck to others, and we don't want the stench on our clothes or our hair or our cilia? My mom used to smoke a little when she was younger but she quit before she had me with the encouragement and support of my dad. Maybe I'm just biased (I really am, actually) but I think your boyfriend is right. He's got to have other reasons to make it sound valid to you, probably, but for the most part, I agree with him.

Sorry, I really sound mean but I think quitting ahead of time will be truly better for you in the long run.

because they no dat u can die from it. ur boyfriend cares 4 u and doesnt want u 2 die so suddenly. he wants to be with u and smoking doesnt make dat possible.also if u wanna have a child ur child is not safe either. he can come out looking really REALLY weird so it is not good 2 smoke. also da people who dont smoke no more bout the affects of smoking. and since they dont smoke they dont understand how hard it is to be addicted to smoking so they think it is really easy and blame u for not quitting.

Some people does not understand that one of the smoking causes is a lack of chemical in the brain (dopamine), the nicotine fills up that "gap". There are some medication that can help, but if you are in that category would be almost impossible to quit.

smokers are already immune to the smell and the effect on their lungs. those who don't smoke usually can't stand the smell and aren't looking to ruin their own lungs because of the actions of others. second hand smoke is worse than actually smoking.

You are. He doesn't want you to kill yourself, which is what you are doing and if you have a child, you are putting that said child in serious danger by even lighting up before. Also, do you want to take the chance that you will never get that dream wedding or to watch your child grow up becasue you got lung cancer?

I think some non-smokers just think they're 'better' than smokers.

I think society has something to do w/it.... and them banning smoking from all over the place.

Because if you read the label on the back you will notice a warning "may cause cancer". Not to mention it smells bad, and he probably want you to be alive until your old.
