I know the perfect solution if you are just starting with woodworking and also if you have already experience with it. I reccomend to give a look to this website ( woodworkingplans.kyma.info ) You can find a lot of woodworking plans and you will be able to manage the projects with a CAD/DWG software. It allows you to modify the projects and to alter the arragements. If you put your order in now and ask Oddbins and places like that, they will be putting in their orders for Port and the like very soon.
Also if you have any bonded warehouses nearby (try Yell.com for info) they may have loads sitting taking up room, so you might get some there.

Id just build shelving.. the crates can fall over easily if stacked too high.
