Dystonia is a clinical term that discribes a problem with muscular tone--that is, the inability to smoothly use or control a muscle. It is a symptom of very many neurodegenertive diseases. Spasmodic muscle contractions or muscle freezing are forms of dystonia. They can cause a person to have problems with walking and handling things and sometimes cause them to have contorted or spastic movements or posture.
