I think those emotions can be constructive for human beings at certain stages of their lives but not at others. For a child learning how to fit into society, having a bit of a guilty conscience now and then when they've overstepped a bit is not a bad thing at all - it in a sense helps to teach self-control.
Once that self-control is achieved, hopefully by adulthood, then there is really not much practical use for it.

Nothing productive, if it's plaguing you. Shame and guilt to me are like demons. The devil uses them to mess with us, to get in our way of being well balanced, productive people. He's after all called "The old accuser"...
Personally I have no guilt or shame. Anything I've done, is over and I have taken what I have learned from it, and applied it to my life as positive.
There's no room in my life as a Christian for guilt.
Have a great one!=)

If you can feel guilt and shame then you have a conscience. Those that don't feel these emotions are more worrisome to me. However I would say that it is not healthy not let shame and guilt bind you and stop you from living a full and happy life.
Edit: Thumbs down for what? What am I missing?

Shame and guilt aren't always negative. You can see them as burdens, or you can see them as tools to help you learn from your mistakes. In any case, if you go through life without ever feeling those things, there's probably something wrong with you.
