Oh yes. the infamous 289 "Mousetang". Late 64 I believe. Pretty to the ladies but a plain Jane 65, 350 hp. 327 four speed Chevelle with 373's would eat those pesky little toys for desert. Man that was fun! The 289 had no torque or horsepower. It didn't matter if it had dual quads or not.

The Mustangs introductory date is April 17th 1964. It was considered a 1/2 year production which Ford enjoyed doing in those years. The 1964 & a 1/2 Mustang is a slight bit different than the 1965 full year version.

1964 & a 1/2 Mustang has a generator and not an alternator like the 1965 year. It also has a different radiator core support with vent holes which the 65 does not. In 1964 the 260 V8 was optioned but dropped in 1965. 1965 the Mustang had the 289 in about 5 different versions.

The 1964 1/2 year model is rare and a lot of people have converted them over to alternator and removed the 260 and swapped it with the 289. Basically the same engine if dressed up right. The stock motor without options was the straight 6 offered in Falcons which the Mustang was based on.

I have been collecting and working on 60's Fords for over 30 years.

the first mustangs came out late in 1964 thus giving them a 1964 1/2 year. the first full year was 1965. the only difference in the two is 64 1/2 used a generator and 65 used an alternator.

1964, it was released as a 19641/2 model because it came out halfway through the model year. Most people consider the 65 the first year as well because there were only very few changes in the car including a swap to an alternator instead of a generator.

Like the other posteres said. But I have seen many listed as 64 1/2 rather than 1965 because of the summer release date.
