I'm going on a business trip to iowa.Is OK to keep a handgun in my hotel room?

I'm not a lawyer but after reading the above statute, I think the short answer to your Q is "yes". It seems that section 4.a,e,& f are pertinent to your question. The motel room is your "home" for a brief time. Carry the unloaded gun in a locked case when you transport it in your car and to the room.
Note that for Iowa residents, "permits to carry" are issued by county sheriffs.

You can have a gun as long as you have a permit and it is not concealed.
