The teachings of all prophets should be examined with a high level of skepticism. The odds are good that you should not accept the teachings of a prophet, as many prophets are false.

You should not accept any teaching based on whether or not it implies some loss on your part. You should accept only those teachings which are actually true and supported by facts. What facts, if any, support the teachings of these prophets you speak of? The question of personal loss or gain is irrelevant.

Well, is it worth giving up 'earthly things' for eternal enjoyment in heavan? This life will pass by sooner than we think. Don't gain the world and lose your soul because eternal happiness is the only form of true happiness.
I know that when i was 5 I loved to play with toys. Now I don't. I was even attracted to alcohol as an underaged drinker- yet i realized how stupid i was and that none of these would truly satisfy me.

If one considers the Golden Rule in some of it's many translations to be the words of prophets, how could you lose. It looks to me that following the golden rule is a win win situation.

Yes, most definitely. Not only His teachings but, you can have a personal relationship with Jesus. You will have lost your natural man but gained eternity.
