why did god create bodies? everything that is wrong with us can be traced back to the fact that we are physical beings. we take up space which means we need space, ergo the origin of greed. this greed is also responsible for anger as well as envy. we are given instincts to procreate, therefore we have lust. i could go on but i think you get the point. wouldn't it have made a lot more sense for god to just make us into spirits?

Actually that is a pretty astute observation. The common euphemism, especially among Christian circles, is the term “sins of the flesh”. Thus we have an acknowledgement in the religion that talks about sin the most, that our depravity has a physical cause. In almost every religious tradition, an individual seems to only achieve perfection, when he transcends his physical self, either through some spiritual exercise, or through his death.

So to reiterate your question, why trap us in an environment (i.e. our bodies) that merely engenders sinfulness? This is not the work of a divine intelligence that is exceedingly moral.

Quite the contrary; this is actually the work of a sadist or an idiot. Fortunately, we can take solace in the fact that sin, as defined as an offense against God, is a fiction, because the existence of the Judeo-Christian God is highly unlikely.

Yet this doesn’t excuse the brazen stupidity or cruelty of men who introduced this destructive idea of sin to humanity. A truly enlightened group of individuals, unlike the provincial dolts who arrogated to themselves the title prophet, would never demonize human impulses, such as lust, but instead would merely advise humanity on the best and most productive ways to manage these impulses.

Think how much better off we would be if Voltaire, Thomas Paine, Spinoza, Einstein, and Twain were our prophets, than Moses, David, and Muhammad.

Maybe the point of the soul is to learn? The physical is necessary for the spiritual to survive. Lets reword your question...what if we were all souls and no body? Where would our concious take us? From what i understand we as humans are in a constant battle with our self. Then there is the constant battle with the needs of the body and the needs of the soul. If there were no soul we would be in the same place as we are now ... just in different places with different problems.

Everything needs balance. I am positive that after a billion years times a billion years from the point of existance some type of balance would be created. Look at the world now...unbalanced as it is...it will recorrect itself soon enough...

Yes, from a human point of view it would have been easier for God to make us into spirits from the very beginning. But God's wisdom is far superior to humans so he starts us off as flesh, gives us the opportunity to choose which path to follow, and teaches us valuable lessons that angels will never fully understand.

The good news is that included in God's plan is the reconcilation (restore to harmony) of all creation. There is physical DNA and spiritual DNA. To the caterpillar it's the end, to the butterfly it's the beginning. So no matter how hard we struggle, we cannot escape the love of God. God loves us and there's not a darn thing we can do about it.

He has His reasoning for everything. This body is not made to last because this life is only very short period compared to an eternal life. In eternity God will provide new heavenly bodies. But He leaves something that we can recognize each other.

Just, the way God made everything is the way it is, you can't change that. You are made of Fresh(body), Soul, and Spirit, by God. But you say god but you don't believe there's a god. Jesus is going to show you differently some day! Jimmy.

our body covers our soul so that it will be pure and clean from the outside evils but at some points, some people let the evil
enter their bodies, so they become bad.
