The ones who defend it the loudest have usually never read it.

I see that there is a defense here in reguards to jesus.

Sure jesus is was great but the truth is it was a womans wisdom (goddess Wisdom),not jesus. So really how can one defend the bible.

The question was about the bible.

Today we are at war? Think about those who are defending a book that stands for a religion that no longer applies to this world.

The bible needs a update big time.

Thruth is as many have said here it benfits them.

Remember in the garden adam took no responsiblity for his action he blamed eve.
Makes you wonder about that symbology too. What was eve up too? *smiles*
Interesting how this still applies today. I think even men are oppressed by patriarchy and the bibles interpetation of how to live a good life.

Get over it it takes a woman. NO(woman) they are not perfect either.
So hows about doing it together.
Seems to me so many really have a rough time embracing the whole, I understand its hard to take a deep look.

Help mate oh my! Who wants to help those who are using the good ole boys system to justfy there interpetation of an outdated bible.

The Hebrew Bible treats women as spiritually superior.

I don't think that women are inferior in the Bible. There are very strong women in the Old Testament like Esther and Judith. Mary, God's mother, is treated with respect and considered blessed, there are women in Acts of the Apostles that help in the cause of the Apostles like Lydia.

You are not taking the context into consideration. 2000 years ago women were not treated as equal to men. This is a fact even in the past 100 years in America. Also, man is the head of the family and has specific duties while women have specific duties. Never does God call women inferior to man. As a matter of fact God says a women who fears the Lord is more valuable than precious stones. Even Jesus defended a prostitute when all the men were ready stone her.

Strange that you should ask a question like that, since your question is based on an erroneous assumption.

No, if you read how Jesus treated women, you would know that your question is based on a pre-bias against God. (Jesus said if you want to know about God, look at me - specifically, "When you've seen me, you've seen the Father")

So when you THINK you are seeing women being treated as inferior in the Bible, it is your own mistaken concepts that you are reading in to a passage, not God's plan for people.

Yes, it IS true that the Bible accurately depicts people's sinfulness, but that just shows that the Bible really IS God's word, because it doesn't gloss over the sins (yes - sins - not mistakes) of the people. Usually, people who write their own history gloss things over to make them look good. Not so with the Bible.

For instance, it shows David's adultery with Bathsheba and his murder of her husband!

So, why not try reading the life and times of Jesus for yourself, as recorded by four of his followers, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John? You'll find them in the Bible in the New Testament.

Because women are inferior. Go Jesus!

(Seriously, that is perhaps the least offensive aspects of the Bible, and among many many other reasons why it should be treated with suspicion. I agree that its content is incredibly sexist....then again, even after women's rights have been attained, our society still remains incredibly sexist. The Bible just fits our purposes on that matter, I guess).

The bible teaches that there is an order to life. It teaches that Wives are in subjection to Husbands, Husbands are in subjection to Christ, Christ is in subjection to God.

But it also says that man is to treat women as Christ treats man. Christ did not lord it over man that he was in an elevated position he simply gave us a fine example to follow. And showed love and care in helping mankind.

Inferior is such an ugly word. Simply to be cared for by men.

I don't. I do believe the Bible encourages the oppression of women. There are other books...The Life of Saint Issa is about Jesus and he clearly states that man would be nowhere without women and they deserve respect. A very good read.
