I refer to the health level.

Understanding that both should be watched and are bad for us... but, I would like to know which is actually worse for a person and society as a whole and why.

My view has been the the corn syrup is the worse and that it contributes greatly to the obesity issue..

Now, why, something so bad for us as a society isn't anyone stepping in to ban it's use/production?

high fructose corn syrup, is without doubt the worst. It is an altered sugar, and it alters blood chemistry...it makes it very difficult for cells to accept any other sugars.

both.... but if you had a choice between the two you are better off choosing neither. Its not like you HAVE to eat either right? If you eat healthy, fresh foods in moderation, you dont ever have to worry about choosing the lesser of two evils. You might roll your eyes and say that isnt realistic to eat fresh salads, organic veggies/meat and drink only organic juices or water. It is ultimately up to you to make conscious, good decisions for every meal and for every slip up (drive thru item), you support the world epidemic of obesity. Skip the refined and HFCS of the world and let mother nature offer some of the finest sweets with zero guilt.

Hmmm. I believe that individual food items (not poisons, now--food) aren't bad for you as such. It's your diet, as a whole that matters. A little sugar, or corn syrup, as a (very) small part of a balanced diet that includes lots of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts and seeds, meat (a little), and dairy product (a little) is not going to hurt you. Pay attention to your diet, eat small, balanced meals, and you'll be very healthy. All this focus on individual food items (e.g., refined sugar, trans-fats, red meat, etc.) is just diverting attention from where it really belongs. That is, from our diet as a whole, how much we eat, and the balance of foods from various groups and categories, and how much real (natural) food, as opposed to processed junk, we eat.
