ah yes, much more peaceful... in stead of a quick painless death in the case of the guy with the guy, jesus threatens to be his friend or burn for all eternity... yes, definitely much more peaceful...

Even a child will answer no to this question. No friend resorts to coercion to achieve friendship. In fact a coerced friendship is an oxymoron.

Since you posted this question in the religion & spirituality section, and based on your other comments about religion, I am assuming you are using this question as a metaphor for the absurdity of the Christian scheme of salvation. Your metaphor is quite apt.

The idea of salvation, in the Christian sense, is founded on intimidation. You are set up in circumstances that are beyond your control (i.e. you being afflicted by original sin). Then you are offered two alternatives – either you perish in eternal pain, or you accept the implausible nonsense of a man dying to redeem you and cleanse you of the corrupting effect of original sin, something for which you should not be held accountable for if God were just.

Jesus, and belief in his work of atonement is seen as the definitive example of love. To me it is actually the definitive illustration of bullying, and anyone who truly ponders what I have stated above will come to the same conclusion.

I am thankful that Jesus offers His deal much more peaceful way, the way that it might actually slip form our hands to be His friend ever.
