spirited messenger,
If I were say a mother, one of my son (A) didn't obey me to be nice to his brother(B), I would separate their room, I am NOT going to put them in the same room.Especially when A threat B to disobey me as well.
The third brother (C)who is nice, can stay in the same room with B.
I punish A and warn B to be carefull and not listen to A.
But all of them are in the same house. My house.

The idea of a "Devil" pretty much blows the traditional idea of "God" out of the water - only the majority of theists lack the critical capacity to grasp the nature of the problem.

If the Devil exists, then he evidently must exist at the behest of God (if God exists). He must actually be God's "agent." The idea that he was an angel that "rebelled against God" is as absurd as the idea that mankind rebelled. How exactly do you "rebel" against a Being that knows everything and can do anything? Insofar as you do, you do so at His discretion.

So, either God is NOT all-powerful and all-knowing, or the Devil is God's puppet - as we all are. The third option is that the entire mythology is a load.

The Hebrew word translated as "Satan" means "Adversary". The Greek word translated as "Devil" means "Accuser".

Could it be that they are the traditional personification of such things, and were not originally intended to refer to a person?

Satan, for instance, started out as "the satan". Not Satan. And Devil came later. "the satan" was originally used to refer to angels (messengers) and to men who were acting as adversaries.

I don't think it's silly to regard the Devil as God's enemy. It's based on tradition and understandable. But, I believe it's important to consider the original wording of the Bible and the original intent. Considering original meaning and intent, I don't think there's a case to say that God has an enemy named "Devil" or "Satan".

It's still convenient to talk in those terms, I guess. Especially to children. But as they age and educate themselves, they'll realize that both words have meaning and the Bible doesn't tell the story as tradition tells it.

The last time I decided to do a harmful/bad act there was no horned dude in red cheering me on.
The devil is man made. And silly. The irresponsible use the devil to get out of accepting consquenses for their bad behavior. The Lord helps those who help themselves. Once you accept responsibility then you can work on redemption. I seriously doubt on judgement day God is going to let the evil doers give the devil as an excuse. He will be looking for how you acted responsible and went forth to do good to obsolve the bad you did.

Remember, it was men who had only the tales of their ancestors with which to create history. The authors of the Bible used their conceptions of what they believed from the historical tales they had encountered from their ancestors to compose the Bible. So, every human trait that the authors had experienced they applied to their creation of God.
But regarding God's enemy as silly; no, that is a bit of a stretch even for those who question the existence of God.

I wish you kids would go to church and get some of these answers.
God doesn't have any enemies. Satan doesn't even know God is mad at him yet.
Satan is plotting against God and God just watches and waits. Yes He removed Satan as head of the Angels but let him claim this world.
If you are going to knock God at least be ready to back up your mouth with facts.
By the way did you know age is restricted here. You should not be on this site it is not suitable for children.

Lucifer's original job was to tempt people so they could grow stronger in God's ways if they ignored the temptation. He does the same thing now, only he doesn't care what God wants. I do not believe God sees him as an enemy, just as a fallen angel who has the opportunity to redeem himself and get back to where he belongs, as God's angel.

Peace

One of Satan's slimiest little tricks is to convince us humans that he's really not quite as bad as we thought. If you start believing his lies, he'll get you big time. He is God's enemy as well as our enemy. He as a hugely inflated ego which is why he thinks he can actually be God's enemy. He raised his hand against God and vowed he would be higher than the Most High God. That's why he's God's enemy. He chose to be.

I don't believe in the devil. I don't think God has an enemy, and our own evil inclinations are our worst enemy, not some creature outside ourselves.

particular. The devil is God's enemy. The devil is attentive to his destiny, and works very tricky to pull as many as achievable down with him. merely as he did one 0.33 of the Angels in Heaven. The Bible says the devil is able to lie to the very choose of God. those that decision themselves satanist, and devil worshipers are anti-Christ, and anti-God.

WHY SATAN?
===========

We get to know the role of Satan from the Book of JOB. While sons of God had their board meeting, Satan came there as special invitee.

It is God who asks him have you noticed my servant JOB? It is with God's explicit permission that Satan attacks JOB. God told Satan to attack Job, short of taking the latter's life!

THE RESULT
===========

Through the test on Job, God proved the self righteousness of Job!

It is not that God does not know Job's thinking, but this is the only way that Job's state of mind could be exposed!

DAVID'S CASE
============

Compare these verses:

2 Samuel 24:1 And again the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he moved David against them to say, Go, number Israel and Judah.

1 Chronicles 21:1 And Satan stood up against Israel, and provoked David to number Israel.

In the first verse God prompted David to take census of the people, and in the second it is Satan!

The point is Satan is an instrument, to prove us.

WHY SATAN
==========

For us it takes the prompting of Satan to sin. But in Satan's case he did not require anyone to persuade! So God uses him as a tool to prove us!

Even Jesus was tested (in every aspects, like us) by whom, Satan!

If there are any errors, may Lord Forgive me and add his blessings.
