There were several "bushmasters" in Vietnam, and your question isn't specific enough to determine which you are looking for:
The M113A1 Armored Personnel Carrier was called a Bushmaster.
There was an elite Recon Patrol Unit known as the Bushmasters.
A 25mm cannon used in Vietnam was also called Bushmaster.
The Marines of Company G, 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines were known as the Bushmasters.
Bushmaster was also the name of infantry field tactics used in Vietnam wherein a company-sized element was broken into platoon sized elements and used to interdict known enemy communications and liaison routes using ambush tactics. Perhaps the best examples of this (all the Hollywood drama aside) are the movies Boys from Company C and Platoon.
I hope this helps answer your question!

The Bushmaster was also a very venomous snake encountered in Asia, also refereed to as the "two-step" as in two-steps after you were bitten you were dead.
Various units used the name as a nickname particularly among the road-runner. Mike-Force and SF-Recon forces.

I slapped a snake during a very cold, windy night in the highlands, thinking it was a rat. It was so cold the snake did not strike it scared the daylights out of me. I killed the snake and someone identified it as a Bushmaster. The mountain yards it for lunch the next day.
