You can see it clearly now, on a clear night but it looks like a bright star to the naked eye.

I took this picture a couple of weeks ago with a pretty inexpensive camera. Olympus Camedia 3.2 megapix, 16X zoom on a tripod. This was taken within the city limits of Pittsburgh, so certainly not optimal conditions for viewing and not a telescope but an enexpensive camera.

You can see rings and what might be a moon to the left. Possibly one to the right, too, but I couldn't tell you for sure if it's a moon or a star.

It's not going to get any better than that on August 27. Without binoculars or some magnification it will just look like a bright star.

The E-mail is a hoax (or at least an exaggeration.) We will be able to see Mars clearly, but the claim that it will appear we have 2 moons is false. Mars will simply look like a bright star.

Also, if you take the night off make sure you know where to look because it will be easy to miss.

It's Mars not Saturn (Saturn is near the sun and not visible) and it's a hoax.

Mars will be just a very bright little object in the East. Like a reddish star.

Not true.
Saturn isn't going to make the trip to the inner solar system just to give us a good look. You have to have at least an 80 power telescope to make out the rings on even the clearest night.

THE CLOSE APPROACH BY MARS WAS AUG 27 2003.

IT'S NOT HAPPENING THIS YEAR!!!

Appear like we have two moons? Doubt that.

But hey! Seeing Saturn on my birthday would be KEWL!

I also read where it is Mars. But I know that this is a great year for a lot of "heavenly bodies" to be seen. Meteor showers are also very abundant, I guess.

It will be visible, but you will need a telescope to see the details well. It looks pretty good at its present position and getting better.
