There's plenty of ''buzz'' about it. Seems to me the reason is the same as ''why a dog licks his balls''.

The reason is our wonderful government and the anti-gun lobby. In 1998 new laws were passed on the taxes on new gun and ammo sales. (Firearms and Ammunition Excise Tax (FAET) is a tax imposed by Chapter 32 of the Internal Revenue Code (26 U.S.C. 4181) on the sale of firearms and ammunition by manufacturers, producers, and importers.) The tax can be as low as $5 and it goes up from there. Section 5811 starts the tax on a new firearm at $200. The shortage on ammo is supply and demand. The cost of firearms will increase dramatically when trial lawyers are able to hold gun makers liable for a criminals activity.

The war in Iraq and Afghanistan. The US is going through literally billions of rounds training troops and this is driving prices up. All raw materials used in producing ammo and firearms/accessories are jumping in prices due to the basic law of supply and demand. No big conspiracy, just simple economics.

Judoka- Are you serious?

I shoot a hell of a lot more ammo than any "criminal".

Credible- Supply and Demand, the supply is going toward other activities, we buy the leftovers.

Valid - There is no legislation to prohibit it, so it is valid.

Justifiable - we feel unsafe, we like to shoot, it is our right, therefore we buy.

Good business is Neeeever conspiritorial right?......RIIIIIGHT!
Just ask Mr. Bush.

Justified? Yeah, gas prices are going up...things cost more, blah, blah, blah...somebody already gave you all that.

Reasonable? Not at all! Yet we continue to feed the frenzy by buying everything off the shelf as fast as we can get our grubby little mitts on it. Me included.

The price of all precious metals are going up. Also think about if the price of ammo goes up that means the average non law abiding person cant buy ammo hence gun violence will go down LOL

Perhaps the war has the supply down.

Perhaps your state taxes firearms at a higher level.

Obviously supply is down, and demand is up.

I know why there is a shortage in ammo in calibers, because most of them are old and people think other guns are better so they are in higher demand so the industries server the higher demand guns first because of more bussiness!

Hope this helps

Its simple mathmatics all the criminals have scads of money so why not capitalize on the fact plus they use away more ammunition than any citizen would ever come close to using

I don't own a gun so I've never given it any thought. I've only used firearms when I served in the military otherwise what purpose they they serve in the home?
