I work in a garage, and if we say we close at 5, Every car waiting for pickup is either inside the shop, or it has a security bar on the steering wheel, and one on the brake. We close at 5 and unless arrangments have been made ("I work a few blocks away from you, I get off at 5, I can be there by 5:15" sort of deals) we don't wait. We, like him, are a business, and businesses have scheduals. We've been in the same boat, a guy came in and said that he must have the car by that night because he was taking it on holidays and was driving there over night. Well, the guy who works upfront on the counter waited until nearly 6, calling this guy about every 5 minutes, I waited with him just because the guy seemed like he might cause trouble. Well 6 rolled around and no guy or anyone to pick the car up. We closed the shop at 6, not 5 like it says we close at, 6. Bob ended up getting a call from the guy at about 8pm that night from the guy, all pissed off because he needed his car and it was locked up in the shop. We waited an extra hour from him to come, and he took us for granted, by 3 hours after we close. Is it fair for him that his car was locked in the shop for the night, and he starts his trip late? Yes. Was it fair for us to wait an extra hour and have this guy not show up? No. It looks like you should be getting a rental or trying to track down somebody who works for him to get your car, if not waiting it out is your only option.

As I read your description I think I understand two separate stories. Which is it?
Did the mechanic get to his shop two hours late? Isn't he home yet because you can see the car in the driveway with the gates locked.
I hope you were not late which means the guy has already left for Mexico.

Sorry dude you should have been there when he said. We have worked in that industry for years and I can't tell you how many times we have waited on people who NEVER showed. Come on people RESPECT the people who work on your cars and things. Just because it was someone working out of his home doesn't mean he's not reputable as one person put it. what people forget is that these people have lives and deserve to be respected just like everyone else. I bet you was getting it done alot cheaper than if you had taken it somewhere else. STAY AWAY from that car till he gets back unless you want to take a chance at going to jail!

He told you to be there before 4:00pm. You showed up late. You get to wait until he comes back to get your car. If you go in and try to get it, that's trespassing at the least, burglary at worst. Doesn't matter if it's your car. It's at his house behind his gates.

Sorry dude... You'll just have to wait until your mech gets back from his vacation. You were given warning, and didn't recover your vehicle in time. Now, if you attempted to remove your vehicle from his locked and gated property, you could be charged with trespass and theft.

lol....hope you have 3 weeks free time. he told you a time and you missed it. 100% your fault. if he has a business liscense and you take the car w/o him there its theft and trespassing. no liscense and its up in the air.
very irresponsible on your part. what gives you the right to just show up whenever despite his plans?
got what you had coming as i see it...

YIKES! What made you feel comfortable about having someone work on your car who does it out of his home? Does he have insurance on his business? Man, too trusting with illegimate businesses.
