This happens sometimes. The key is not let one or two days of less-than-ideal food choices send you back to your old ways.

Bottom line is that weight gain and weight loss takes time and what you should be concerned with is your AVERAGE food consumption for the week or month. You didn't gain fat in one or two days initially -- indeed, it probably took many months or possibly even years. You won't gain fat from a couple of bad days, provided that overall you are eating healthy.

Think of it this way: If your goal is to eat 1500 calories a day and you do this six days out of seven, and on day seven you eat 2500 -- for the entire week you averaged 1642 calories. So you were over by 142 calories on average with the "indulgence" day included. Do an extra 10 minutes of cardio each day, and you've more or less got yourself back to 1500.

This is one of the reasons why many people can effectively include a "cheat meal" in their diet -- one day each week when they allow themselves to eat something they really enjoy, but something that might normally be off limits. For me it's usually something like wine, a dessert or maybe a pasta dish with cream sauce and some extra French bread. As long as I'm eating healthy the rest of the week, the extra calories and fat don't have much effect on my body composition.

The key here is not to binge that entire day. Choose one cheat meal, not a whole day, and whenever possible decide what you are going to eat ahead of time. So if what you really crave is a burger and fries, then let yourself eat one. It won't kill you provided you return to your normal eating the following day.

Stay focused, eat right and don't let the exceptions ruin your new "rules."

Best of luck!

You may not be able to stop the temporary gain you might experience from what you ate, but you can get back on your program and prevent any MORE from occurring. That is the essence of success.

When you're on a diet you sometimes violate your diet. It's OK. Don't fret over it or try to make up for it. Get back on your diet, continue w/ reasonable exercise and don't do it again.
