To treat fleas, it is safe to use a very small amount of kitten strength Advantage, Frontline or Revolution drops, as long as you have your vet's consent to do so! You will need to treat the kitten once a month. Be sure that you obtain the spot on flea treatment from your vet, and not over the internet or over-the-counter. After applying the drop/s, use your thumb to spread it along the kittens back in a straight line, to the tail. This helps to spread the flea treatment over the whole kitten's body. Wash your hands thoroughly afterwards. Dosages are as follows:
* Birth to one week: one drop (two drops if flea infestation is heavy)
* One to two weeks: two drops
* Two to four weeks: 3 drops
* Four to six weeks: 4 drops
* Six weeks on: follow directions on pack
If you don't want to use flea treatments, you can lather some vet-approved kitten shampoo onto his fur and use a very fine flea comb to comb out the fleas. The shampoo immobilizes the fleas, making it easier for them to be combed out. Be careful that the kitten doesn't become chilled during this process. After you have combed all the fleas out, rinse off the shampoo under warm water. Don't get water in the kittens eyes- take it to the vet and have it treated for tape worms. Animals develop tape worm infestation after grooming themselves and ingesting a flea- that has ingested tape worm eggs, and the cycle begins. Your vet will be able to give you an age estimate and advice on using flea control products.
good luck.

Wash him with Dawn dish-washing liquid. It will kill the fleas. Just be sure to rinse him well and not get it in his eyes. Comb out the fleas every day. At about age 8 weeks I think you can safely treat him with Frontline or Advantage drops. Those are the only good products, and the fleas will respond to one, but not the other. Call your vet to see which product works best in your area.
Here is the link to my long blurb on how to get rid of a flea infestation in your home.

Most of the flea powders are safe to use on young kittens. The vet will be able to tell you for sure what you can use and can give a estimate of the kitten's age.

if his teeth are only just breaking thru gum, or you cant see them yet, he is around 3 weeks old... but this is unlikely.
If he seems to have a lot of teeth (they will be small), he is at least 6 weeks old.
sounds 6 weeks plus to me because he is already fully weaned.
Frontline is safe to use on kittens 8 weeks plus. if you are worried, use a slightly smaller dose or wait another week before applying it.
Frontline will kill all fleas, their eggs and ticks.
Do NOT use dawn dish soap. It can absob thru the skin and make your dogs very sick - apart from that it doesnt kill flea eggs.

I read on a web site and then researched what I had read and it is a recommended old home remedy I would try myself too. Add some brewers yeast and garlic powder (sorry don't remember the measures, you can find it on many pet sites) to there food. It gets in their blood system and fleas hate the taste and jump off and it detour es new arrivals through smell. It is not noticeable to us though. Good Luck.

I'd use a kitten flea brush, that's what I use on my kitten and he's already 3 months old - since he's still indoors I'd rather avoid any chemicals until I have to start using them, if at all.

Go to a pet store, or vet and ask their views, or just read the labels on their flea products. I know it sounds gross, but you could pick the fleas off with tweezers: kitty will be grateful. Thanks for being kind to a cat!!
