Absolutely do this. I fix mine that way all the time. I add my ribs to the crockpot with some water and let them cook on low about 6 hours. I then drain off the water and add my barbeque sauce and let them go on high about another hour or so. I have found that if I add the barbeque sauce at the beginning it can sometimes burn or get way too thin.

I think your Mom had the right Idea I might Boil them first like she did then put them in your crock pot with the BBQ sauce too.
They can cook for quite awhile too.

Slow-Cooker BBQ Short Ribs
This recipe is always a winner at my table. So easy to make & yummy!
4 lb. beef short ribs
1 large onion, coarsely chopped
1/4 c. flour
1 c. BBQ sauce
1/4 c. honey
1 Tbsp. yellow mustard
Place ribs in slow cooker; top with onions. Mix remaining ingredients; pour over ingredients in slow cooker. Cover with lid.
Cook on LOW for 6 to 8 hours (or on HIGH for 3 to 4 hours). Remove ribs from slow cooker; cover to keep warm.
Skim excess fat from sauce; return ribs to sauce. Stir gently until evenly coated.

Toss in the ribs, pour in a bottle of your favorite BBQ sauce, add water to cover and cook. You need to add water to the BBQ sauce to keep it from burning.

I believe the joker, different than that as quickly as I prepare dinner the meats for a crock pot I fry the beef to brown it, then upload herbs, spices, salt and pepper to flavor with chopped onions and in case you like a splash chopped garlic, I fry the lot till the onions are sparkling. the beef onions and pan juices I then upload to the crock pot and what different greens needed to sell the flavor sensations. There are different dishes we use in our eating place that are cooked interior the crock pot like saurbratten a german crimson meat dish it extremely is traditionaly cooked this way. perfect of success Roberto.
