The biggest capacity I would use in that camera would be 2GB. There is no stated restriction according the specs I found, but since it is an older camera, it may have issues with any cards larger than 2GB. So, no, you can't use 8/16GB cards...even some digital SLR cameras can't handle those cards unless you format them using a PC every time you offload images.

As far as the Extreme series of cards goes...yes, it can accept them, but the question that follows that is would the camera even be able to utilize them efficiently? Basically, with cards in the Extreme series, they can take data so quickly that the camera itself becomes the bottleneck because its transfer rate will usually be lower than what the card can handle. As a result, you might want to ask if you do want to spend the money on a memory card that your camera will not utilize fully.

I would recommend you also consider the Ultra II series of cards (predecessor to the Extreme series). Still fast enough, but cheaper. Check out the links below in my sources for prices for the various 2GB cards.

I also have 2 additional items to point out related to memory cards...

There is the temptation to buy really big cards like the 8GB cards because of the convenience, but the potential downfall would be the "eggs in one basket" notion, where if your card dies, you'll lose everything. I would suggest getting multiple cards of smaller denominations like 2x2GB cards instead of 1 4GB card, etc.

Also, when buying Sandisk cards, DO NOT buy them from eBay. There has been a trend where fake cards have been sold, and although they may look exactly the same, when people began using them, that's when they were discovered as fakes. So, don't buy any cards from eBay, it'll be more trouble than it's worth.

ALSO, the poster below missed his own mark, if you look at the link http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/fujifilms7000/

Under "Storage, slot 1 does say xD card, but slot 2 says CompactFlash, so you CAN use either one, but xD cards are not as widely available as CF cards.

If you are talking about the S7000 that came out about 3 or 4 years ago,

it takes only xD style cards (not Compact Flash). So, the guy above me is just plain wrong.

As the S7000 is not FAT32 compatible, it can only see 2GB of data on a memory card. So, a 2Gb xD card is a big as you can go.
