Hair loss can be related to stress or diet, or heredity. It isn't uncommon to lose up to 100 hairs a day when brushing.
With those things in mind, protein based hair treatments can help to fortify your hair. There are a range of treatments across brands that you can use at home (eg De Lorenzo).

Zinc is an important element in the management of stress when it is mobilized in stress as it is an important constituent of many vital enzymes required for normal body functions.

In terms of hair, nails and skin, it helps in the synthesis of various proteins, which subsequently facilitate growth and maintenance. So any deficiency in the levels of zinc in the body will directly result in impaired growth and damage to these body parts.

Normal hair loss is when you loose 100-150 hairs per day. Now if you don't brush your hair everyday (especially if your hair are curly) hairs that would have fallen today don't fall and when you brush them you discover them in your brush. That's normal.
Make sure you diet is healthy with lots of fruits and vitamins, make sure that you don't have anemia (can cause hair loss), don't have thyroid (which cause hormonal and weight problems) and when you are sure everything is OK wash your hair with nutritive shampoo & conditioner. Avoid bruching hair when dry because you could cut them from the root.

Use a Shampoo and Conditioner such as garnier fructis long and strong or length and strength. And make sure you don't blow dry, flat iron, or curl(with a curling iron) your hair. Usually these make your hair dry, brittle, and weak. Another thing: don't brush your hair to hair and gently pull out the knots/tangles, don't just attack them. You need to be gentle with your hair. See if the garnier stuff works and if not go to your stylist and ask if he/she knows whats going on.

Fructis shampoos and conditioners. I've had the same problem and they have helped a lot.
