Just ask them how they like their burgers, well done, med rare, etc... If they really LOVE burgers this will be the most important part of cooking them.
To jazz up my burgers I add lettuce, fried onions (ones with breading), bbq sauce, cheese and mayo.
OR you could crush up some ranch flavored doritios and mix that in before you start grilling :) Good Luck!

I made this recipe a couple months ago and it was delicious! Tex Mex Burger with Cajun Mayo: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Tex-Mex-Burger-with-Cajun-Mayo/Detail.aspx The only adjustments to the recipe I made were using regular Ground Beef instead of Ground Sirloin (because the fattier the meat the juicier and more flavorful it will be) and I also added an egg to the beef. I used Tony Cachere's Creole Seasoning (but whatever your favorite is would work).
Up until this last batch of burgers I also had difficulty getting the burgers cooked perfectly. I had asked for tips at the time and got some great answers that really helped me. If you're cursed with the same problem you may want to check out the answers I got: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AjyTTr.sE0SHw0.7paJayuPty6IX?qid=20070716104315AA9xFDe

A favorite grill trick is to add onion soup mix to the meat the night before and preform the patties for quick grilling. Also serve on Kaiser rolls rather than buns since they are firmer and don't forget the "garden" - hand leafed lettuce, sliced beef steak tomato, sliced red onion, sliced cucumber and pickle.
If your grill is charcoal be sure that all the coals are evenly white and keep an eye for flare ups (never press meat or it will splatter and flare) cook 1/2 inch (4 ounces each) 11 to 13 minutes (7 to 8 minutes on gas) 3/4 inch (6 ounces each) 13 to 15 minutes (13 to 14 minutes on gas) try to cook for 1/2 the time on each side and only flip once.
Ask you husband about their favorite drinks and sides it is just as important to have a favorite side and beverage as it is to make a tasty burger.
Good Luck!

I like to make my own burgers. I put all the ground beef in a bowl. Dont buy ground beef that is to lean. The least lean usually tastes the best. I mix some bbq sauce, mustard, garlic powder and a little pepper(if is seems a little thin put an egg in it for binding purposes). Make them decent sized as they will shrink if you use beef that is less lean. Everyone loves big burgers. I also love raw onions, fresh tomatoes and a big soft bunwith my burger.
Good luck.

I made these burgers this weekend and my kids went crazy for them.
You will need:
2 lbs ground chuck
1 med onion, finely chopped
3 garlic clove finely chopped
1/4 cup bbq sauce
1/2 cup italina bread crumbs
couple of shakes or w/o sauce
1/2 bacon cooked and chopped up or get the real bacon bits
1 lb of your favorite cheese shredded I used an extra sharp cheddar cheese
english muffins or small foccacia rolls
Mix all the ingredients together except for bacon and cheese. I have a tupperware hamburger press so I used this to form my burgers. You can also use a large deep lid of something. I used an ice cream scoop, I took one scoop and put into my press, pressed this half. I then took a small handfull of the bacon and cheese and formed a ball, I placed this on top of the pressed burger then took another scoop of hambuger and put this on top and pressed this. It perfectly sealed the cheese and bacon in the burger. Do this with all the meat. To cook them, I place them in a large deep skillet and put the heat on medium. Put the lid on. And let them cook, this way you will cook the meat but prevent the filling from cooking out. I them to finish them off, I have a stove top grill plate and I just transferred them there to brown them off and get some grill marks on them. I then served them on toasted english muffin. I put ranch dressing, BBQ sauce and an a slice of vidalia onion on mine. There were really great and well my whole family loved them. Good Luck.......

well the less you add the better they will turn out
some great burgers
just sprinkle some pepper, a little garlic salt, and 3 drops of woshtashire sauce on each patty
you should try it great
if you want something a little fancier
add some cubed chedder into the ground beef, always turnes out great for all guests, but when you cook these it's twice as smokie so put that in mind (also you might want to even add some cubed bacon to make a sort of bacon cheese burger always tastes great)

You can add just a little bit of Zatarain's seasoning when you're mixing the ground beef together. That'll give it just a little bit of flavor - don't use too much because it'll taste too salty/spicy. The best burgers I've ever eaten!
Definitely grill the buns - baste them with a tiny bit of butter and stick them on the grill for a little bit unti lthey get toasty. That'll make for a better burger too.

Wow! I would say that they are some rude parent-in-laws you got, and I feel sorry for you! If you don't like how they keep suggesting you all this rubbish, then try warning them that if they continue like this then they won't be able to see their grand daughter. She is your daughter ad you have every right to stand your ground and speak what you like. If your husband doesn't like the way you talk, ask him if he understands the way they talk to you.! I WOULD NOT give sugar at all to a baby, is your sister stupid!?! Like seriously, you are right, a baby doesn't need sugar, and feeding the baby what she gave your daughter was just wrong! They sound like they have NO respect for you or the baby what so ever, which is sad, especially when the father-in-law and sisters etc try to smoke around a baby. So sad! I think you just need to speak up more, who cares what they think because what comes first is the baby, not what they think.... I think you are handling the situation good so far, I would've done the same. I can't be much help, but I would distnace myself more away, like spend less time with a family like that. all the best

I had some great ones that my friend and I made:
added diced onions
added fresh garlic
When making the patties, on the top, put a little indent in the burger - then, when the burger puffs up, it won't be a big bubble-burger!
Good luck!

Use ground chuck 80/20. That 20% fat makes for a super juicy burger. Season liberally! using salt, pepper, garlic powder, maybe some oregano, minced onion, parsley, Worstershire sauce.
Grill over hot fire. DO NOT PRESS ON THE BURGER. Turn only once, cook about 5 minutes/side.
