"I have hand-me-down furnishings in my apartment. The sofa and loveseat are in a wedgewood blue shade. The floors and tables range from medium light brown to medium dark brown. How can I do a nautical theme using these furnishings?"

Paint your tables all white. Paint your walls navy. Paint all your trim white and hang up white curtains. Keep your sofa and loveseat. Hang some pics of lighthouses or ships or something else nautical that are in white frames. You must use lots of white to offset the dark blue. Plus white frames really stand out against the blue background. Put down a lighter colored area rug on your floor. White throw pillows, and maybe a few red ones for accents. Accessories are easy: buoys, lighthouses, small white ropes (for curtain ties maybe), ships, sailboats, etc.
I did this to my bathroom and it looks great! I used a loopy white rug on the floor, lots of white towels, a small white clock on a white rope, and white shower curtain. I think a similar treatment would work for your living room.
Good luck! Have fun...gee, wish I were helping you. I love to paint!

If the sofas are a solid blue, that's a start. If not you might want to slipcover them in an appropriate beach color. The tables can be sanded and repainted in white and then "distress" them a little with a slight sanding. Find a rug to pull the furniture pieces and theme together. Accessorize with pictures featuring nautical themes or colors, throw pillows, and a few odds and ends that say nautical. Be careful not to get too carried away. Less is more.

I can see the blue and brown doing a "western" or "moraccan" theme. But you could do anything really, those colors go really well together. If you wanted to change the blue you could do slipcovers for the furniture. For some other ideas check out these web sites.
