There must be a type of dental "ombudsman" where you can take your case to.
Have a look at the website below for complaining about private dental treatment.

Yes, you can try and maybe be lucky. First approach the dentist and ask for a refund formally (by letter). State that you are also contacting the Dentist Council regarding the quality of the work (don't mention cost). Dependant on the dentist response, consider alternate action:
Do contact the Dentist Council, do also get a report a from another dentist about the poor job that was done. These people are more afraid of being reprimanded by their little club (Dentist Council) than by customers.
Come to South Africa and get it done for next to nothing and have a holiday while the swelling goes down. Good luck.

Whoa there are two conflicting points here. First off £535 may be too much but I don't know a lot about private treatment costs.
The main thing is to speak to the dentist about what your new dentist has said. There's no point going through the hassle of contacting your PCT or the BDC if he'll fix it for free. If he won't then by all means get in touch with them.

i would ask the private dentist first of all. if he hasn't done the job correctly then he should fix it. how can you be sure that the NHS dentist is right?
things could be different for you but i have found that compared to private dentists, the NHS dentists are seriously lacking in time to take care of you.

call the dentist place and let them know that you had to go through an emergency service. Ask to speak to the manager, and tell them everything. If they refuse, tell them you will be taking your business elsewhere and that you will let family and friends to know to do the same. I am not sure you can make them pay for the fee, but the threat of losing buisness may makes them change their minds if they make an unfair choice. Good luck

Go back to the original dentist and tell them but if you get working tax or child tax credit you get free dental treatment, or dental hospitals.

You can certainly file a complaint, but, just like construction contractors or any laborer, there are "no laws" against shoddy workmanship.
Sad but true.
As doctors go, bodily injury to ones health can be litigated.
Good luck.
