Especially if you are a New Yorker, I'd appreciate any "best" coffee house, bookstore, italian restaurant, movie theatre, tips, you know what I mean, the "real" city, what is beyond the tourist scene. What would you suggest me to do and where to go? Any jewel that I shouldnt miss?

Check out www.timeoutnewyork.com a couple of weeks before you go. It has all the latest including what's hot in restaurants, bars, shows, music and where everything is happening on a daily basis - it was my "bible" when I lived there and still is for my friends who are still there. Restaurant reviews go to www.zagat.com as is written by everyday people, not critics...I'll be there at the end of September as well! See you in the Villiage (also make sure you go to Bar 89 and be sure to visit the toilets... - you'll enderstand when you get there...)

I feel like this could be considered "tourist-y," but I honestly love this place--Max Brenner's! Have you been there yet? It's in Union Square, around the corner from Shoemania and across from Virgin Megastore. It's a great place for really unique chocolate treats, like Chocolate Granitas, mm! It'd be perfect if you were a chocolate lover. If you have already been there, maybe you can try Tavalon? It's a small tea place that's also around Union Square. I have the menu right next to me and it says 22 East 14th btwn University & 5th Ave. I really like the drinks there. They have this Herbal Fruit Freeze that tastes deeeeelish. =D Have fun! I love NYC.

Get some Greek food in Astoria, Queens. If you like seafood there is none better in NYC, and its very accessible from Manhattan. Basically anytime you get out of Manhattan you see the real NY, its where real NY'ers live eat and play. Any ethnic neighborhood should have interesting food and shops.

Need to go to the boroughs to see the real city. Try Arthur Avenue in the Bronx, Avenue X in Brooklyn, and Roosevelt Avenue in Queens. If you want to dine, then go to Arthur Avenue.
