As others have pointed out, it is getting hard to say "they are this". However, we can make some assumptions by what you say. I won't get into the "they are Russian" argument, as if you go back far enough, we all come from somewhere else.

Russia spans the European and Asian continents, and the different parts have predominant features based on the people who originally settled there.

People descended from the Northwest of Russia typically look caucasian/European, having descended from the Kyivan-Rus. Kyiv (and his brothers and sister - the "original" settlers of Ukraine) were of Viking/Nord blood, hence the strong "English/white" of the Northwest Russia areas that were settled by their descendants. Through the years, there has also been a strong German/Italian influence on their bloodlines.

The Southeast of Russia has a lot of Asian bloodline influence, coming from Mongols, Tartars, Turks, etc.

However, since your father is "Russian/Ukrainian" and looks "middle Eastern", I would guess he has a great influence of Tartar in his blood. This would be common for someone descended from Southern Ukrainians, as the Crimean area was originally Tartar/Turk/Muslim.

Your mother sounds like classic "Western/European Russian".

I would recommend you do some historical searches on your family bloodlines. You will likely find the history of the various parts of Russian and Ukraine to be a fascinating world that you can be proud of.

For Gary D - I would recommend researching your bloodlines as well. Many "Russian Jews" are descended from a group of Russians who chose Judaism over Christianity and Muslim, to avoid persecution in early Russia, as it was considered a "neutral religion" when they originally formed. There is, however, a great influence from the displaced Israelites, who also settled with them.

In some parts of the world experts combine Europe and Asia into a continent called Eurasia, so you father could be of Eurasian descent. If you mom is only Russian, she is likely a Caucasion so she might look as if descended from a British line or that of any other European country, as well as North America.

We the Russians is the Nordic Aryan nation: tall blond/red-haired blue/green-eyed beasts.
Mongoloid genomes are minuscule.

In contrast, Western and Southern Ukrainians have a mix of Polish and Crimean Turkish bloods. Of course, they are Europeoids/Caucasians, too.

Officially the Ukraine is part of Asia.

My grandparents were Ukrainian as well. Ukraine is in a funny place because it received the influence of many cultures. My grandparents were of Jewish descent, so they appeared very middle-Eastern looking too, and they were most likely the descendants of the Jews who were exiled from Israel around 70 AD after the burning and desecration of the 2nd Temple in Jerusalem. Many never came back and settled in the area around Iraq, Iran and the Ukraine. Many Ukrainian Jews were persecuted for their beliefs in old, pre-1917 Russia, and after 1917 as well, so they fled Russia for other places (See Fiddler on the Roof).

Ukrainians also have Turkish, Indian, Chinese, and Eastern European features depending upon their ancestors origin(s) prior to coming there.

Interesting historical note...Chernobyl is located in Ukraine.

Though Russia is mostly in Asia it looks like the barbarians of the European area settled there too. Though there are many Russians with the oriental features like almond eyes. When races were divided up through features alone the Russians ,like Siberans, were considered Mongoloid which is of oriental extraction.
It's really all about how the genetics ran in your family.

I consider Russian to be European. They are a transcontinental country so they cross over two continents. So its whatever you want to consider it since they do share a border with North korea, Khazathan, China, mongalia as well as they share borders with many european countries.

Russian cant be confused with asian. Russian is not middle eastern. Ukranian is more middle eastern id think, we are all mixing cultures, dont worry so much. It is not important. i dont separate them personally. They are all tourists with either permanent or non permanent residency. I dont care if they've lived here there whole lives or not. They aint no Steve Irwin....Sorry, cant help the way i feel. I couldnt class them. If i heard them speak, id know they were from somewhere far away from here....and i know im not answering your question in the wrong catagory..and my answer is uncalled for.. sorry, you just opened up a vent. all this racial stuff shiits me.
Russians descend from Russia, Asians are from asia. Middle Easterns are from The middle east. Australians are from Australia. Indians are from India. Then you get into the my parents are Asian but i was born in australia (you follow the culture, you are immediate descendants, you dress in the traditional garb, you speak the language..you are asians/ indian..muslim/ whatever! but you expect to be called australian.) I worked for a lebanese lady once. (dont get me wrong, i really liked her, I was pretty racist before her, but i met a lot of lovely lebanese.. muslim and christian! She was always incredibly insulted if someone called her lebanese! (same with south african bosses) Im NOT lebanese/ sth african! Im australian! I thought, no your'e not. Youre a lebanese/ sth african who moved to Australia and now lives here permanantly. She ate lebanese food and sent her kids to lebanese school/ church.....she only associated with fellow lebanese....Youve been here for 10 years out of your 40. Why do they defend their culture etc, but insist they are not from there? I cant work it out. I guess they are embarrassed. The majority of the Lebanese community are embarrassed and ashamed about the terrorist b/shiit and dont wish to be associated or judged. Sth Africans are known to be tight, arrogant etc.... Why cant they just say 'yes, I am Lebanese/ sth afr/ndian/ asian. I am proud of my heritage and i am a good, kind, decent person. Please dont judge me. Instead they live their nationality, culture, but dont want anyone to see it. and put them down when youre around? These are just ones i have known..
I know asians that have lived here for 20 years and cant speak a sentence. Some, if you closed your eyes, youd think it was a true blue aussie of 30 years.... Nope, only been here for 8...Some embrace it, others are too worried about what everyone else thinks. I have friends from every single race. They are proud, try to fit in, embrace our culture (while keeping their own) and want to be included. They are lovely people and very dear. I just hate all this racial seggregation. I also have every one of these nationalitys living in my unit block. Portuguese (psychopathic nutcase), asians- totally rude and unfriendly and indifferent. 2 have already set their units on fire- nearly mine. Cause they are clueless. They dont understand if they leave their oven on with plastic in it........I actually knocked on her dads door- he lived in the next block.....he answered me with a rude grunt... he knew i was a resident....sorry dont speak..... I said tell your daughter her unit is on fire! and walked away. (i had already called fire brig )For someone that didnt 'speak' he knew exactly what i had said, and was screaming at her in seconds.RUDE! at no time did i get a thankyou. They were obviously renting. The indian couple- he beats the crap out of her, no regard for anyones property or belongings.i really try not to be racist, they just all seem to piiss me off with their driving, stupidity , rudeness and indifference.and right now i have more important things to worry about, like the disgusting scent my ferret has just filled my entire unit with..Pooooooo!.Smells like something my boss bought me to try one day....bless her....
