You need to specifically ask the doctor to test you for STDs. The ONLY STDs that can be tested by a urine sample are gonorrhea and chlamydia. Gonorrhea and chlamydia can also be detect by a swab sample.
Urine tests can be used to test a number of things from UTIs (urinary tract infections), to drug use, or even STDs. You have to ask the doctor to specifically test you for certain things though.
Take care!

Yes, if the doctor notes which STDs to test for when he writes the order for tests. However, urine tests are not very accurate and blood tests are more reliable. Unfortunately, some STDs can't easily be found at all. For example, there is no test to see if a man has HPV.

I can't believe anyone said yes to this question. To be thoroughly tested for STDs you need a blood test, anal and throat swabs, urine test... So If you have gone to your doctor, had a urine test, and think you are STD free, you are WRONG. Also, for most tests your doctor SELECTS what the sample is to be tested for. So you can technically have a blood test, and the pathology clinic might be instructed to only check Red blood cell count or something, and NOT for any STDs!
You MUST go to a doctor and ASK to be checked for as many STDs as possible.

Blood tests are definitely better, but they might detect some.
If you have any doubt and wonder if you have one, tell your doctor, so they'll screen you for all the possible STDs. You don't want a curable disease to destroy your health, or reproductive system down the line.
Also, if it's HIV the sooner you get on meds the longer you remain symptom free and the longer your life.

No. It will also depend on what your doctor is testing for. But I don't know of any STD's that can be confirmed with a urine test.

Some, if you have a Urinary tract infection, that would show, and could be STD related, but you need disease specific tests for most STD's, and they are primarily blood and culture.

urine can be used to find gono and chlamidia, but it sounds like your doc only requested to look for uti's which is totally different, he has to specifically request for std's for the lab to do the tests, they cannot just do whatever ones they want.

No they only test for things they tell you they are looking for. They dont test for std's unless you request it. Those tests are not standard.

No, for males a cotton swab is used to collect a sample out of the uretha. Blood test for HIV of course. I will say the cotton swab test is rather uncomfortable but the relief it gives you is worth it.
