I just had a stress test done for my heart. The doc said that I'm in the top 10% athletic ability for my age group. I am trying to lose 30 pounds and have noticed during excercising, I'm still short of breath. The doc assures me there's nothing wrong, but I'm worried still. Does a stess test also measure lung function?

when you took the stress test did you have a mask on ? if so i would say they did check lung function if not then you need to have a spirometer test done by a pulmonologist to test lung function.

Palpitations and arrhythmias are very common, especially in people over 50. You're doing everything right so far though!! There are so many different types though that it really would be best diagnosed by someone who specialises in this area. Examples of different arrhythmias are: Ectopic beats, atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, atrial tacycardia, junctional tachycardia, paroxysmal tachycardia...So if there are this many of them then surely some doctor should be able to help you! Examples of medications that can help the different types of arrhythmias are: flecainide, digoxin, beta-blockers, verapamil, digoxin, amiodarone. It sounds like it is an everyday occurrence for you which is why I mention all the different types and the medications, if it was a once-in-a-blue-moon thing then it mightn't be a big problem but I would suggest talking to your doctor or a specialist and asking them about these things. After all (and not to worry you!), if you are already on 2 different types of anti-hypertensives and have high cholesterol then you probably need to be extra careful when it comes to any heart problems. Hope you get it sorted! :)

I just took a stress test and it enlarged my right Ventricle now I am short of breath sitting down. The doctor said everything looked great,, I went and got my own records it showed massive enlargement . Other cardiologist are treating me like the plague. they don't want to get involved in liability. Before and after pictures show my heart enlarged on the tread mill,, going to see an attorney today.. From what I read off the Internet right side of heart pumps to the lungs and if there is a bad right side heart lungs don't get oxygen... retrieve your own records and look at the measurements that's what I had to do... right side enlargement is called runners heart. Too big means it is to much pressure inside, it can rupture, take it easy.

Only if you were hooked up to a machine that monitors your breathing.
