Try not to think too much about them. Instead, think about being the person you want to be. If you can stay calm and matter of fact, that usually helps. Also, don't try to "win" or get the last word, even if they are being jerks. Give them the information that they need, get them taken care of quickly, and move them on out of your life. Nine times out of ten, other people are watching you - and if you can keep your cool you may impress your boss or a potential new employer.

My rude customers are patients and their family members, but I try very hard to remember that they aren't feeling well and just want someone to listen and assist. It takes alot out of me. I really have to take a deep breath and get very calm and just listen. After they are done, I calmly explain that I will help them. I may ask some questions. Ultimately I try to resolve the problem or tell them I will get back to them with an answer. Then make sure I do. The easiest way for me to handle a rude customer is to remember that they help pay my paycheck and benefits.

When they're rude I actually feel sorry for them. People who are living happy, fulfilling lives don't act condescending like that. They're angry and I'm glad I don't live a life like that.Sometimes I try 2 pray 4 them 2 find happiness and love in life and that makes me feel better. The longer u work the more confidence you'll acqure and I promise it will get easier. You'll reach a point when u just cast them a gracious smile and act nicely anyways.U will stop holding onto that crap in time.Remember that about 1/2 of us deal directly w/ the general population so you're not alone! You'll be just fine.

Kill them with kindness. Listen intently, do not interupt, and deal with the problem as your boss wants it dealt with.
"I'm sorry that happened, how can I make it right?" Restating the problem often helps," let me hear what you are saying, you called here on the 16th, and the person was rude to you? What did she say? Yes, it is true that we do not take back merchandice without a reciept, it is our policy to bring this situation to the manager's attention when it happens, let me call her for you."
Follow the rules of the workplace in dealing with customers, smile, and listen. It works.

With a smilie on your face and to the best of your ability. You are representing the company you work for. It's not personal. If you find that not to be workable for you, you are in the wrong job. Customer service is difficult and not everyone should be in that position.

If they're being testy and loud, tell them in a calm and low voice, 'm'am/sir, pls understand that I am here to help you as much as I can. I will only be able to help you if you cooperate.' If they continue to be loud, Look them with a serious face and simply tell them to come back when they're more calm.

you should be rude and nasty in a way that they cannot complain about you. when i used to work in a call center i would put people on hold for ages or pretend i couldnt hear them or hang up on them. hahaha! you could say."exactly what kind of help is it you are wanting?" and say it real nasty like. what fun!

Customers are small potatoes. It's your fellow co-workers that will drive you nuts.
